7.5.19 – Overview of Last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I worked on the coding for my project and managed to create a script for stamina within my game. This week I need to add a script to allow the player to exit the game by pressing the “escape” key, and the I need to build my game. After that I need to begin working on my evaluation.

I may end up posting my game online for other people to play and give feedback which can then contribute towards my evaluation. I also need to work on my bibliography.

30.4.19 – Overview of Last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I worked on my coding and a couple of issues regarding colliders. I managed to create a script to make the collectables disappear when the player comes into contact with them, and to count how many collectables are left for the player to collect. I hoped I would be able to finish my coding last week, however, since I’m still having a
POTS flare, I have been unable to do all the work I wanted to, meaning I will have to continue with my coding this week as well. I may end up only being able to code the stamina in my game depending on how well I am able to focus.

23.4.19 – Overview of Last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I worked on the scene dressing for my project. For the most part, this wasn’t too difficult, and I managed to get a decent amount of work done, however I wasn’t able to do quite as much work as I had originally wanted to, since I was still unwell for much of the week.

This week, I would like to work mostly on the coding aspect of my project, however I may also work a little bit more on my scene dressing, since I don’t yet feel that my scene is as detailed as I would like it to be. For the coding work, I will need assistance from one of my teachers, although I may also be able to ask other students for assistance if necessary.

15.4.19 – Overview of Last Week and Plan for This Week

Unfortunately, last week I was ill for much of the week and therefore wasn’t able to get much work done, however I did manage to start putting my assets into Unity, and I also managed to create some normal maps to use in my scene, so I’m still pretty much on schedule with my work.

This week I would like to try and complete the majority of my scene dressing so that I can begin to move onto coding next week. Ideally I would like to attempt some coding this week, however I will most likely need assistance from one of my teachers who isn’t in this week due to it being the Easter holidays. I will most likely attempt some basic coding with the help of some of my fellow students and potentially some tutorials, just so that I can try to stay on schedule with my original time management plan.

8.4.19 – Overview of Last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I finalised my decision in terms of what art style I wanted to use. This meant I was able to start creating assets for my project. I was able to create a variety of assets to use in my project, however I will most likely work on creating a few more this week. I would especially like to focus on creating more items that I can use as the collectables in my project, since I would prefer for many of these items to be unique and interesting so that they stand out better from the environment.

I was also able to test out a few of my ideas in Unity last week, which has given me a better idea of what I need to do next and what else I need to create for my project (mostly normal maps to use on certain assets). It has also shown me that some of my original ideas wouldn’t have worked as well as I’d hoped, and given me the opportunity to come up with alternatives that work better.

On top of this, I was able to reflect on what I could have done better at various stages of my project, including the planning stages and my time management strategies. One key point that I’ve picked up on is that I am much more able to focus while relaxed at home, meaning that I was able to get a lot of work done over the weekend. This is something I will be able to consider for the rest of the project and hopefully use to my advantage by better balancing out when and how I work, and when I can relax and regain my energy in order to work more efficiently.

This week, I would like to try and finish creating all of my assets and potentially even begin putting the assets into Unity so that I can start working on scene dressing and coding next week. This would fit well with what I originally wrote in my time planner. I may also work a little bit on creating some sound effects to put into my game, however I’m not sure if I will actually have time for this. I would also like to attempt to make some basic animations for certain assets that I’ve made, however I now feel that this may be overly ambitious and that my time would be better spent on finishing my modelling and beginning to work within the game engine rather than trying to fit too many different aspects of game production into my project.

2.4.19 – Overview of last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I worked on narrowing down my ideas, as well as trying to decide what art style to use. In order to determine what art style I intend to use for my project, I created a survey that I want to analyse this week. I also worked on some more research towards my game comparison, which I may work on a little bit more this week, although I would like to focus more on beginning to create assets and concept art for my game instead.

I also began creating sketches and notes in my sketchbook last week, some of which I have already uploaded to my blog, and some of which I will upload this week.

26.3.19 – Overview of Last Week and Plans for This Week

Unfortunately, last week I didn’t manage to do everything I intended to. This was mostly due to a CFS/ME flare that was triggered by a trip that I went on. Luckily, I was able to do some work on the Friday, including analysing/publishing my survey results.

This week I would like to try and complete the work that I wanted to do last week, including more research and a comparison of my concept with other games. If possible, I would like to finalise my research and start creating concept art, as well as potentially working on starting to create some assets at the end of the week, although these would mainly just be initial ideas and experiments with the art style I’m going to use.

After last week, I feel that I may have to re-evaluate my goals for how much I want to create over the course of this project. I think this week I will try to narrow down what aspects of my concept I want to focus on.

20.3.19 – Review of Last Week and Planning for This Week

Last week I worked on creating mood boards and gathering reference images for the sorts of assets I want to create. I used a lot of my own photos, but also gathered some from online.

I also made posts that went into more detail about my game concept and what kind of assets and ideas I want to include in my game.

This week I would like to try and finish the majority of my planning and research, including going into even more detail about the concept for my game. One aspect of my concept that I would like to focus more on this week is the representation of chronic illness/disability. I need to look into more ways I can represent certain symptoms, as well as deciding what symptoms I would actually like to represent. I have a few ideas already, as well as a few suggestions from my survey results, which I would like to analyse at some point this week.
